Under the creative direction of David Rockwell and his firm Rockwell Group, and Editor/Co-Curator Pei-Ru Keh, this team has created a playful and immersive environment as an ode to two pillars of Americana: the great outdoors and the American home. The exhibition, located at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) + WantedDesign Manhattan, will be the new heart and showpiece of both fairs this year. It opens May 21 at the Javits Center in New York.
"At the Crossroads of American Design: Celebrating the Established and the Emerging" offers a snapshot of American design in its many shapes and forms, highlighting more than a dozen designers with a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences. United by entrepreneurship, individuality, and a love of making, this showcase of designers and studios from across the country kickstarts a conversation about what American design can mean, at the junction of New York City's two major design fairs (ICFF and WantedDesign Manhattan), both under the same leadership for the first time.
The 2,000-sq.-ft. exhibition is divided into spaces which include a communal area anchored by Fort Standard's oversized striped dining table; a gallery of objects; a casual configuration of stools made by members of Lumber Club Marfa; a woodworking club of girls aged 7-14. There are over 400 established and emerging design brands from more than 30 countries set to be on display.
