WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American Society of Interior Designers, in partnership with Hospitality Design (HD) magazine, announces the winners of the 2011 Earth-Minded Awards (EMAs). The EMAs honor interior designers, architects, manufacturers and students that have demonstrated a contribution to advancing sustainable design in the hospitality industry in three categories: Project, Product and Students.
Entries were judged on a variety of factors including materials selection, resource efficiency, recycling and waste management, design innovation, housekeeping practices and overall guest experience. Additionally, product entries were rated on social stewardship and third-party verification.
Judge Cliff Tuttle, ASID, LEED AP, senior vice president of ForrestPerkins, said the winning project “was not only a beautiful design, but also a model of social stewardship.” Tuttle was also impressed with the product winner and runner-up, adding that they were “the complete package—aesthetics, durability, social responsibility and material innovation.”
