The 34,000-square-foot Willson Hospice House, designed by Perkins + Will, aims to support terminally ill patients and their families by creating a sense of refuge on a beautiful 210-acre site in Albany, Georgia.

Designed to feel more like a friendly village than a treatment center, the Willson Hospice House incorporates familiar materials like fieldstone, stained cedar, pine, Douglas fir, linoleum and cork to impart natural color and warmth.

Organized into three pods, each comprised of six private rooms grouped around a family living room, the Hospice House offers family members reading areas, millwork for children’s games, dining and conversation areas, as well as access onto outdoor terraces with sunscreens. Other spaces include a kitchenette with banquette seating, a dedicated children’s playroom, a quiet room, sunroom and chapel.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver building is also the only healthcare facility ever to be designated an Audubon International Silver Signature Sanctuary, creating an ecological oasis for the local community.
