CityCenter to Showcase World-Famous Art
CityCenter, set to open on the Las Vegas strip in 2009, will include a $40 million fine art program designed to become a benchmark for increased corporate involvement with the arts. The city-within-a-city will feature the work of several world-famous artists, including Jenny Holzer’s insightful LED signs. The artwork has been paired with CityCenter's unique architecture to create a sensory journey that presents the works in a never-before-seen fashion.

Community Library to Be High Tech, Sustainable
Construction will begin next month on a 28,000-square-foot library in Monrovia, CA. The facility will serve as both a community meeting place and a learning center for children, with a computer and technology area, literacy center, and audiovisual center. A contemporary design strategy using rich wood finishes and furniture will make the building aesthetically pleasing, and renewable flooring, recyclable carpet, and daylighting will add sustainability.

Elevation Challenges Office Building Designers
Walls recently went up on the Smith Consulting Architects-designed Abrams Westview Plaza, a three-story office building in San Diego. The facility uses tilt-up concrete wall panels and features limestone tile accents and high-performance glazing. A 46-foot grade change from front to rear prompted designers to tuck a two-level, 69,000-square-foot parking structure into the slopes of the facility, which is slated for completion in August.
