The American Iron and Steel Institute has published North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing—Lateral Design 2007 Edition to incorporate research findings on diagonal strap-braced walls, along with other updates. AISI Standard S213 covers the design of lateral force-resisting systems made from cold-form steel framing, and provides treatment of Allowable Strength Design, Load and Resistance Factor Design, and Limit States Design.
The Standard was approved by the American National Standards Institute as the American National Standard, was adopted by the National Building Code of Canada, and is intended to be adopted in Mexico.
Changes in the report also include modification of diagonal strap-braced wall values, clarification of seismic-related design requirements, and designation of stud thickness.
“We appreciate the work of each of the committee members and the support of the Steel Framing Alliance and Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute in bring these documents to the marketplace,” says AISI Construction Technical Program Managing Director Jay Larson.
All codes and standard work is conducted under the Construction Market Council of the Steel Market Development Institute.
