The Parks & People Green Workforce Development Center, featuring norament® xp from nora systems, Inc., has been placed in Druid Hill Park, Baltimore. The structure, originally showcased in Building Design + Construction (BD+C) magazine’s 2015 GreenZone, is now secured in its new final location and operational. BD+C celebrated completion of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 14.

BD+C’s demonstration buildings—which have been constructed for the annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo since 2008—are meant to show how building products, like norament xp, are used and installed in real buildings.

“We were excited to donate norament xp to this project,” said Tim Cole, vice president of marketing at nora systems, Inc., North America. “norament xp offers a sustainable, durable, stain resistant and comfortable solution that is perfect for high-impact workspaces, such as the Parks & People GreenZone structure.”

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the community advancement arm of the USGBC constructed the 14x45-foot modular facility, which hosted thousands of Greenbuild attendees. Now that the structure is permanantly placed, it will serve as headquarters for the Parks & People Foundation, a nonprofit community organization whose mission includes promoting a healthy natural environment for Baltimore. The mixed-use structure will host high school youth training in urban infrastructure, storm water and landscaping training; community gardeners who plant more than $100,000 of donated plant material each year; and visiting professors who study the park’s plant and landscaping.

In addition to nora flooring, sustainable strategies incorporated in the structure include a high albedo roof surface, low-flow fixtures, daylighting, mechanized solar shading, energy-efficient appliances, natural ventilation and an energy-efficient variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system.
