Human Resources—A Personal Reflection on Support, Balance, and Resilience
This is an unusual blog post. Belated, but also important to me.
I want to thank all of the interior design industry and public relations contacts and Endeavor Business Media colleagues who’ve been so patient with me during the last several months. I know I haven’t been as consistently available or as responsive as I should be, and I appreciate all the flexibility and understanding you’ve shown.
During this time, my family was trying to manage supporting my parents’ needs as my father was diagnosed with a form of leukemia, going through treatment and hospitalization after hospitalization. And although the lion’s share of caregiving for Dad fell to Mom, as working professionals my brother and I did our best to find a balance and a strategy to maintain our duties while prioritizing the family needs. And shout-out to the partners—Alicia and Jeff—who kept things going as normally as possible.
Dad’s battle with cancer ended earlier this month, but I’m thankful that we had some time to make him feel loved and comforted. Still, we have work to do helping my mother get things back in order and recover from illness herself.
My point is this: We all experience disruption and unexpected events in life. Our personal support systems are incredibly important, yes. But perhaps sometimes we underestimate how important our wider network of human connection is in terms of navigating difficult times and “doing normal life” at the same time. I thank all of those who offered words of encouragement and understanding when I reached out about late replies to content pitches, or asked for a bit more time in completing a content package to feature online or in an upcoming issue of interiors+sources.
I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without our strong and centered team here, and the truly incredible people I’ve met through covering the interior design industry.
You all make this happen. Thank you.
