CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif.—Bentley Prince Street Inc., a commercial broadloom and carpet tile manufacturer in Los Angeles County, has reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20 percent since it began reporting to the Climate Registry as a Founding Reporter in 2008. This achievement has earned the company Climate Registered™ Platinum status through The Climate Registry’s state endorsed leadership program.

Along with other leaders in sustainability across North America, Bentley Prince Street has adopted a truly environmentally responsible and transparent approach to doing business. A requirement of achieving Climate Registered Platinum, Gold or Silver status is publishing a carbon management plan, a GHG reduction goal, and a timeline for achieving it.

There are many benefits to measuring GHG emissions with The Climate Registry. Bentley Prince Street is able to prepare for future regulation, identify inefficiencies, explore potential cost savings, as well as provide real and meaningful data to their customers and shareholders about its environmental performance. The process is an important step in reducing energy usage, costs and carbon emissions.

“We are extremely proud of our long track record of success with The Climate Registry and our participation in the pilot phase of its leadership program,” says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “I am especially grateful to our associates, who have been instrumental in helping us to achieve Platinum status and are dedicated to our Mission Zero® promise, as well as to our customers who share in our commitment to sustainability.”

To be awarded Climate Registered status, members must submit a minimum of five practices that demonstrate they are actively taking steps to reduce their emissions. These practices are integrated into a searchable database, which members can use as a resource to determine what they can do to reduce their GHG emissions and energy use.

“Eastman Kodak, the U.S. Postal Service and Bentley Prince Street are the first of our members to achieve reductions through our new leadership program,” says Denise Sheehan, executive director of The Climate Registry. “Climate Registered Silver, Gold and Platinum statuses represent credible, meaningful leadership in reducing emissions, and we commend them for leading the way towards a cleaner future.”

Bentley Prince Street is the largest commercial carpet manufacturer in California. Mission Zero is its promise to eliminate any negative impact the company may have on the environment by the year 2020. The company is moving toward this goal on seven fronts that incorporate programs such as ReEntry® 2.0, Cool Carpet™, and by being the first North American manufacturer to secure an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its manufactured broadloom products. Bentley Prince Street also recently announced that it plans to secure EPDs for all of its manufactured products by the end of 2012.
