Global Assurance Group to Advance EEB Project

May 8, 2007

The Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EEB) project, an initiative of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), announced the formation of the EEB Assurance Group, which will be chaired by Klaus Töpfer, former United Nations undersecretary general and former executive director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The Assurance Group is composed of renowned environmental experts who have had experience working in business, government and the world of academia. Its mission is to validate the research and conclusions of the overall EEB project. The three-year EEB project, announced in March 2006 and co-chaired by United Technologies Corp. and Lafarge Group, is developing a roadmap to focus the global building industry on designing, financing, building and operating commercial and residential structures that are completely energy self-sufficient. The project encompasses Brazil, China, Europe, Japan, India and the United States. More information is available at www.wbcsd.org/web/eeb.
