The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced the winners of the 1st Annual 2013 EdSpaces Innovation Award. The competition recognizes manufacturers and designers for excellence in product design for the learning environment. The Awards were announced at the EdSpaces tradeshow and conference, with this year’s Best of Competition honors going to Sedia Systems for their product JumpSeat.
“As a specialty area, education product design is crucial to the development of the minds that it serves,” IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, said. “EdSpaces Innovation Award is a brilliant opportunity to elevate product design for the learning environment, and we look forward to celebrating those products that are vibrant, innovative, and beautifully executed.”
The judging panel for the 2013 EdSpaces Innovation Award comprised: Stasia Czech, IIDA (Senior Associate and Interior Designer, NBBJ); Hillary DeGroff, IIDA, LEED AP, ID+C (Associate, Perkins Eastman); and Stacy Reed, IIDA, LEED AP, ID+C (Senior Interior Designer and Project Manager, Gensler).
“Overall, the EdSpaces Innovation Award submissions showed obvious excitement and passion,” Reed said. “In making our selections we considered innovative design and out-of-the-box thinking. Sedia, the Best of Competition winner, took a simple concept and married it with beautiful design and function.”
