The Meander Screen by Jacques Jarrige

Sept. 27, 2013
I am a curvaceous dividing screen from the mind and world of Jacques Jarrige, based in Paris. Learn my full story here.

Where are you from?
I’m from the mind and world of Jacques Jarrige, based in Paris, France.

Who in the family do you most resemble?
The Meanders family is a tight-knit group; my organic and intricately carved nature can be seen in all of my siblings, including a table, cabinet, stools, floor lamps and mobiles.

Aside from sugar and spice and everything nice, what are you made of?
Made from MDF and topped with a hand-applied lacquer, I represent an inspired combination of modest material and refined finish. My meandering lines were discovered by Jarrige as he used a handsaw to cut my panels. They bring me to life, like the perpetual movement of a river.

What are your biggest turn-ons?
Having the light, the eye or a hand pass through me. I am porous, an open book.

What are your biggest turn-offs?
Folding under pressure. I pride myself in staying open to all the world’s experiences.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have three things, what would they be?
I wouldn’t need to bring anything, quite frankly. I would enjoy seeing whatever passes through me, and since we are a bunch of panels connected together, we would never feel lonely.

Describe the secret to your success.
I shield my companions from the wind, but not quite.
