Penn Medicine Chair Handcrafted by Thos. Moser

June 25, 2014

The Penn Medicine Chair strikes a balance between two discrete disciplines—wood furniture making and orthopaedic medicine.

Thos. Moser has designed and produced the Penn Medicine Chair in consultation with the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at Penn Medicine. The product strikes a balance between two discrete disciplines—wood furniture making and orthopaedic medicine. This product has been designed to help raise funds to support the Penn Center for Human Performance. Here’s how it all breaks down:

1   Number (in inches) of saddled seat depth to provide extra support and comfort

2   Years ago that Aaron Moser met with Dr. Scott Levin, an orthopedist with Penn Medicine, and formed a close friendship built upon their mutual respect for each other’s precision of craft

3   Number of decades ago that Thos. Moser and the University of Pennsylvania began their relationship, having completed work on The Van Pelt Library, Annenberg Research Institute, and the executive and administrative offices of The Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine projects, to name a few

6   Degree angle of exaggerated lumbar support

15   Percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the chair at the Philadelphia Antiques Show that will support the Penn Center for Human Performance

33   Percent of adults in the United States affected by musculoskeletal symptoms, causing pain in bones, joints, muscles, or surrounding tissues

2014   Year in which Penn Medicine will open (in August) the Penn Musculoskeletal Center and the Penn Center for Human Performance within its new facility, Penn Medicine University City
