Shaw Contract Group Opens Atlanta Showroom

Feb. 3, 2015

Perkins+Will designed the space for the commercial flooring manufacturer

More than 400 guests attended Shaw Contract Group’s new Atlanta showroom celebration on February 2. Located within the design district, the space occupies 5,500 square feet of premium property and is designed to inspire and inform the design professionals utilizing the space.

The commercial flooring manufacturer utilized the expertise of interior design firm Perkins+Will to create a customer experience consistent with the brand. The showroom serves as a merchandising backdrop for products and a space to host meetings and events for professionals, industry partners, and sales staff. The space houses an open-concept work area, incorporating technology into the architecture. Storage walls located in the showroom allow for visitors to have a tactile experience with the products. The striking exterior signage is integrated into the exterior patio and serves as a seating area during events.

“This space will become a hub for the design community," John Stephens, vice president of marketing for Shaw says. "It's certainly a place where they can experience all the flooring solutions from a global brand, but also a place to learn, connect and be inspired.”

The design is based on the experience of awakening the senses. Each feature in the space is provoking, sculptural, and interconnected. The sculptural staircase is modeled after a carpet loom and creates a platform for viewing products. A fiber installation called "Sense of Sight" celebrates the vibrant colors Shaw Contract Group is known for and encourages designers to color outside the lines.

“Our team worked closely with Shaw Contract Group to create a lively and engaging experience that embodies the company’s reputation for being a design leader and innovator,” said Joyce Fownes, principal for Perkins+Will.  “The goal was to create a space that inspires and provokes the senses, while maximizing the use and flexibility of the showroom.”

Atlanta joins London, Shanghai, Beijing, New York, and other global design hubs where Shaw Contract Group's presence is a catalyst for design excellence. From fortune 500 companies to local universities and hospitals, the business and organizations that impact the Atlanta economy will have access to this creative space – giving them the opportunity to work with architects and designers in Atlanta to continue developing commercial interiors that will attract employees, students, visitors, and customers.
