Tommy Bahama© Collection

Sept. 1, 2016

By Lunada Bay Tile

A name related to high-end men’s beachware, Tommy Bahama’s signature casual-yet-classy style has been translated into Lunada Bay Tile’s collection that is a direct descendant of the designer. We decided to ask the tile line native to the West Coast about its history, inner workings, what it’s like to come from fame, and what’s on tap for its future.

Where did you grow up?

My parents, the Wears (Sports, Leisure, and Swim…it’s a very New Age family), along with my uncle Denim, my aunt Accessories, and my cousins Home Furnishings and Rum all grew up in Seattle. But I was born and raised in Southern California.

What was your first big break?

My first big break came when my parents were approached by LBT Models, Inc., who asked if they could represent me in the U.S. (I was underage at the time so my parents’ consent was required.)

What’s the rumor mill churning out about you these days?

I don’t know as I’m not one to buy into rumors. But overall I’d hope people are saying that life seems so much better when thought of as one never-ending weekend.

Where was the last place the paparazzi photographed you?

I’m an intrepid traveler so I could imagine some of my favorite destinations have served as a backdrop. Places like Kangaroo Island with
souring cliffs, dense forests, golden sand dunes, and lush wetlands of the island are discernible in this tile blend. You can see key natural elements of all my favorite places reflected in Lunada Bay Tile.

If you could get one plastic surgery procedure what would it be?

I’m a naturalist at heart and I’m very happy in my own skin. But I’m always looking for healthy, eco-friendly alternatives for better living—natural resource conservation (reduce/reuse/recycle strategies) and incorporating technology wherever appropriate to improve energy usage efficiency.

Who are some of your idols and influencers?

It’s safe to say that I wouldn’t be anything today if not for the contributions of our family’s patriarch, Tommy Bahama. And, of course, the southern California lifestyle that was so much a part of my upbringing.

What’s your biggest turn on?

Seeing the joy in the faces of those people who were able to experience through the Tommy Bahama Collection by Lunada Bay Tile a sense of escape from the everyday. And those same people sharing their experiences with their friends and loved ones.

Turn off?

Stressful environments.

Who’s your current bestie?

I’m not quick to claim a “bestie” since I have so many dear friends and admirers who I hold in equally high regard.

Who would you like to work with next?

Anyone like Tommy Bahama who ignites the imagination and invites creative expression through serene, fashion-inspired spaces like those created by Lunada Bay Tile.

What’s the worst part about fame?

There’s no downside when you are famous for providing a sanctuary for folks to escape the stressors of today’s over-stimulated world. I’ll have to pass on this one.
