Foot Control Technology

Oct. 26, 2016

By GROHE

In an exclusive interview with GROHE’s Foot Control Technology, which took time out of its busy day of simplifying its user's ability to get the washing done, i+s sat down with the new line to learn more about the enhancement feature for the manufacturer’s kitchen faucets. The following is a personal glimpse into its history, technical makeup, and the role it plays in both GROHE’s lineup and the design world as whole.

Who are you?
The name’s Foot Control Technology and I update select GROHE kitchen faucets to enable hands-free functionality. My activation plate can
be installed in the toe space of the cabinet; when you need to activate the faucet, simply give me a tap with your foot. It’s a classic
“look, Ma, no hands!” moment.

Aside from sugar, spice, and everything nice, what else are you made of?
I’m “made” when paired with GROHE kitchen faucets: K7®, a contemporary statement; and LadyLux3 Café, a transitional look.
What was your first big break? I got my foot in the door at this year’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show. Despite being in Las Vegas—the mecca of performers and acrobats—I would argue the best “toe touches” were happening right in the GROHE booth.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, where the GROHE Design Studio is located, and am now in my first year in the United States.

What’s the rumor mill churning out about you these days?
Actually, I have a squeaky-clean reputation, which matches my overall stance on cleanliness. Because my innovative enhancement means touch-free operation, I can help reduce the spread of germs around the kitchen.

Where was the last place the paparazzi photographed you?
In the GROHE Live! Center—a kitchen and bath wonderland nestled in the Flatiron District of New York City.

If you could get one plastic surgery procedure, what would it be?
No surgery needed here! I’m perfect just the way I am.

What’s your biggest turn on?
My biggest turn on is being turned on! When someone taps a foot on me, it really gets me going.

Turn offs?
Tarnishes and scratches on the faucet. Thankfully, K7® and LadyLux3 Café both feature GROHE StarLight® surface technology, which is resistant to dirt and scratches, ensuring a good-as-new look for many years.

Who is your current bestie?
I have several BFFs, ranging from architects specifying me for restaurant kitchens to designers who choose me for residential applications. I fit in whether it’s a home for foodies or design enthusiasts.
