    The hospitality industry is booming. Although there is still a demand for standardized big-brand hotels that allow visitors the comfort of knowing what to expect, locations personal to the locale has become more popular over the years.

    We've listed eight of our favorite unique hotels below that you're sure to love--either for the inspiration or as your next getaway stay.

    DogHouse Hotel

    Columbus, OH

    Located within BrewDog’s U.S. brewery in Columbus, OH, is the country’s first crowdfunded hotel. The 32-room DogHouse, which features amenities like a beer fridge built right into the shower for those sudsy sips and views down onto the brewery floor, secured $300k during the fundraising campaign; a whopping four times more than their original goal.

    With concrete floors, an abundance of wood and steel features, and original art throughout the space, the hotel is industrial chic at its finest. What’s more, several of the rooms are pet-friendly, so Fido can join the DogHouse with you.     Quirk Hotel

    Richmond, VA

    A shining beacon of Richmond, Virginia’s revitalized Art and Cultural and Commercial Historic districts is the redesigned Quirk Hotel. The 60,000-square-foot landmark was originally built in 1916, and the remodel has kept that southern charm—complete with an iron staircase crawling up the restaurant wall—while adding contemporary elements and color pallet. Pastels have never looked quite this good.     Post Ranch Inn

    Big Sur, CA

    Overlooking the Pacific Ocean just off the historic California Highway One, the Post Ranch Inn not only boasts beautiful views, but a biophilic architectural design. Mimicking the natural landscape of the environment, the design of each of the nine sections — called “houses” — use natural and sustainable glass, stone, COR-TEN steel and wood, including reclaimed redwood from wine casks.

    Scottsdale, AZ

    Reopened in 2017 after significant reconceptualization to become one of the best hotels in the southwest, The Scott features hand-crafted Spanish tile, an open-air lobby and rattan and wicker furniture.     Press Hotel

    Portland, ME

    Wordsmiths rejoice! The Press Hotel in Portland, Maine, turns letterforms into works of art, a surefire best hotel for anyone who loves the written word. Housed in the historic Press Herald Building, the 110-room hotel was designed to honor the building’s legacy. Area rugs are inspired by spilled ink patterns and abstract typewriter keys, and letters flow off the walls. The most eye-catching detail is the artwork behind the reception desk.     Under Canvas

    Valle, AZ

    Calling itself an “adventure-hospitality company,” Under Canvas provides “glamping”—or glam-camping—experiences for guests. Its latest location, Under Canvas Grand Canyon in Valle, AZ, takes the design one step further by collaborating with West Elm on the location’s lobby tent. Using an eclectic mix of furniture, accessories and décor against the Grand Canyon’s majestic backdrop, the lobby tent provides a communal retreat.     Serafina Beach Hotel

    San Juan, Puerto Rico

    Opened in March 2018, the Serafina Beach Hotel was the first new hotel in Puerto Rico following the September 2017 devastation of Hurricane Maria. Inspired by the ocean shoreline, Serafina Beach Hotel mixes mid-century modern with Atlantic allure; blues, greens and whites permeate the décor. 96 guest rooms look out over the ocean or the lagoon, echoed inside by the white linen, sea-glass green and driftwood gray color pallet.     Hutton Hotel

    Nashville, TN

    Blending southern hospitality and Nashville’s love of music, the four-star Hutton Hotel reopened in December 2017 as one of the best hotels for performers—both experienced and novice. Designed as a hot-spot for musicians, the Hutton Hotel boasts an entertainment venue and writers’ room — created in partnership with country recording artist Dierks Bentley and singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder — on top of the guest suites. Of course, when creating a space centered around sound, acoustics became a primary factor of the design.
