WireRing: New Cutting Edge Lighting from FLOS

Nov. 19, 2018

Wirering is a simple, minimal light that highlights elements that are often hidden by lighting designers.

In its first collaboration, FLOS and Italian artist duo Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma have teamed up to create Wirering, a sculptural light designed to capture a mid-point between a wall and floor lamp.

Formafantasma, which means ‘ghost shape,’ takes a unique and informal approach to design. Trimarchi and Farresin perceive their role as a bridge between craft, industry, object and user. Each project they develop centers around a new way of living, producing and interacting with objects.

WireRing holds true to their design DNA. Exclusively composed of two separate elements: a custom-made belt-like electric cable and a ring that contains a LED strip, the goal of the Formafantasma designers was to highlight the parts that are often hidden by lighting designers. This wall-mounted light embraces the transmission of energy via its exposed cable structure and the ring of LEDs at its core.

Intended to be equal parts decorative light and architectural sculpture, it allows architects, designers and consumers to use their creativity in installation, whether it’s used for functional or artistic use, or both. See how the Wirering by Formafantasma breaks down:

8 feet of ‘wire’
  • 12.2 inch diameter of the ‘ring’
  • 1 LED strip
  • 180 diodes
  • 10-100 percent dimming capability
  • 3 finishes for the cable
  • 4 finishes for the ring
  • 15 possible combinations
  • 2.10 pounds
  • 2009 Formafantasma graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven
  • 2018 first collaboration launched between Formafantasma and FLOS
