IIDA NY to Host Forum on Design for Learning

Nov. 6, 2013
Discussion to be moderated by Dominic Randolph, head of Riverdale Country School.

The IIDA NY Chapter is hosting a discussion about design for learning and how transforming a classroom environment will revolutionize the education system. By giving students different spaces to interact and work together in, they can collaborate and learn from one another more effectively.

The discussion, led by speakers Mark Maljanian of BRB Architects and Christine Schlendorf of Perkins Eastman, will explore different case studies of contemporary institutional design (grades K-12 and higher education), and show how these changes in pedagogy affect the way students learn and teachers teach. This event, to be held Thursday, November 7 from 6-8 p.m. at The World School (259 10th Avenue, New York) will bring together architects, interior designers, and educators to discuss the traditional classroom and how it can be redesigned to foster creativity.

Moderator Dominic Randolph, head of Riverdale Country School, will generate an open discussion about 21st century learning, and how remodeling the classroom will allow students to participate in their own education. These design changes will cultivate a new experience for students, helping them to achieve their full potential by learning from their peers.
