Los Angeles A+D Museum’s Gala Fundraiser is June 28

June 18, 2014

Celebration embraces surf-inspired design

A+D Architecture and Design Museum (A+D) of Los Angeles celebrates its 13th year of cutting edge exhibitions and progressive architecture and design programs with its annual gala and fundraiser, “CELEBRATE: Groundswell,” on Saturday, June 28 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif.

This year, A+D celebrates California’s beach communities, which have for years been a mecca for—and inspiration to—artists, craftspeople, designers, and architects. Continuing the legendary runaway presentations for which A+D’s annual gala has now become known, the 2014 CELEBRATE gala will feature custom surfboards, boogie boards, and skateboards created by local and international architects, designers, and artists expressly for the A+D fundraiser.

Designers include returning participants:

  • David Hertz
  • Don Chadwick (Herman Miller’s Aeron Chair designer)
  • Gensler
  • Karim Rashid
  • KMNelson Design Inc.
  • Minarc
  • Neil Denari
  • Richard Meier & Partners
  • Steven Ehrlich
  • Warner Bros. Studios

The “groundswell” concept this year is also dedicated to the surge of community support extended to the Museum since it landed on Museum Row in 2010, which is evidenced by A+D’s momentum in attendance, membership, and its ever-expanding slate of events and programs.

A premier, sun n’ surf-themed silent auction will also take place during the event. All donated pieces (modeled and displayed) will be auctioned that evening, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Museum. The festivities will include DJ Raul Campos of KCRW, open bar sponsored by Tito’s Vodka and Asahi Beer, and Southern California cuisine, as well as the return of last year’s emcee, actor Boise Thomas, and a special appearance by Madison Hildebrand, luxury realtor on Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles.”

“For every A+D gala, we challenge our design leaders to venture out of their comfort zone; creating a wearable item, their ultimate carry-on, or this year, a surf-inspired pièce de résistance,” said museum director Tibbie Dunbar. “We love that top creative thinkers push boundaries and explore new design territories, creating works for A+D Museum’s CELEBRATE gala that reflect that kind of expansive architecture and design exhibitions A+D provides the region.”
