First Annual Proof + Beauty Awards Launched by AIANY

The AIA New York Chapter Committee on the Environment (COTE) have launched their first annual awards, Proof + Beauty.

Modeled on the COTE National Awards, the AIANY COTE Awards will further sustainable design in the architectural profession, make transparent lessons learned, and reveal the process behind innovation in an urban context. Proof + Beauty will promote greater understanding of design strategies through transparency, comparative operational data, and compelling lessons learned that reveal and inspire new materials, technologies and design solutions.

The competition jury will include:

• William Braham, FAIA, Associate Professor, University of Pennsylvania
• Andrew Herdeg, FAIA, Partner, Lake|Flato Architects
• Kevin Hydes, PE, LEED Fellow, President & CEO, Integral Group
• Laurie Kerr, AIA, LEED AP, Director City Energy Project, Urban Program, NRDC
• Jill Sherman, Vice President, Gerding Edlen

The competition launched on September 2, 2014 and submissions will be accepted until November 10, 2014 at 5 p.m. EST. Winners will be announced December 9, 2014, with project presentations by winners on December 18, 2014.

Completed new buildings, renovations/restorations, and interior architecture are eligible. Projects must be located within a radius of 100 miles from Central Park, New York City and must have been built and completed (substantial completion) after January 1st, 2009, and for at least three months prior to the submission deadline. All architects licensed in the US are invited to submit.
