The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is pleased to announce that its International Board of Directors has welcomed Susan Grossinger, Senior Vice President and Director of HOK Product Design, as a professional member of the association.
IIDA is the Commercial Interior Design association, with a global reach that supports design professionals through a network of more than 15,000 members in 50 countries. IIDA advocates for advancements in design excellence to increase the understanding of interior design as a profession that creates business value and positively impacts the well-being of people who inhabit built environments. As Director of HOK Product Design, Grossinger is responsible for matching the firm’s unique design resources with market opportunities, to develop products that enhance the lives of their users.
“Through her work in product design, Susan has been a tremendous influence on how people see interior designers,” said IIDA incoming President-Elect Marlene Liriano, IIDA, who recommended Grossinger for the membership. “Not only does she embody what an interior designer is, she shows the world that we do much more than interior architecture and that the profession is multifaceted. We are honored to have her as a professional member in the association.”
To date, Grossinger’s design team has helped launch more than 30 products and is developing 35 more within the healthcare, lighting, urban planning, furniture and finishes, safety, and sustainable design sectors. The products, designed for a wide range of manufacturers, have received honors including Best of NeoCon Gold, Silver, Innovation, and Editors’ Choice Awards; a Nightingale Healthcare Design Silver Award; and an International Design Award (Gold). The firm has received three design patents, three utility patents, and has two patents pending for its products. Prior to leading HOK Product Design, Grossinger was Director of Interiors for the Los Angeles office of HOK for 15 years.
“Susan is a tremendous asset to the profession and critical to the Interior Design industry,” said Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and CEO of IIDA. “She is talented in a multidisciplinary way that speaks to the true future of design.”
“I am so honored by this acknowledgement of my contributions to interior design,” said Grossinger. “Under Cheryl’s leadership, IIDA has done so much for the profession, raising the bar for how people think about interior designers. I will value this membership throughout my career.”
Grossinger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Pepperdine University, and is a Board Member of Heal the Bay.
