Product Expose: Oil Punk
Where did you grow up?
Although now I'm a pretty big deal, I have humble beginnings. I was born in a rusty, historic, 120-year-old factory in beautiful York, Pa. Despite my glamor, I never forget my past, and my natural elements (tin and cork) shine through.
What’s the rumor mill churning out about you these days?
I saw on Twitter that folks can't believe my designs have strong American industrial roots, even down to the metal and machinery gears of the factory where I'm made. In this case, rumors are true.
Where was the last place the paparazzi photographed you?
I’m what you’d call a rising star—I really just came onto the scene in August, so the paps haven’t found me yet—but stay tuned. Soon you'll see me in the hottest boutique hotels and restaurants, or anywhere with a gritty, urban vibe.
Aside from sugar, spice, and everything nice, what else are you made of?
I’m a metallic and matte design on mylar.
If you could get one plastic surgery procedure what would it be?
I’m not ashamed to admit, I’ve already had work done: I got NSF/ANSI 342-certified. It’s the foremost standard by which to evaluate and certify the sustainability of wallcovering products.
What are some of your idols and influencers?
My family at York Wallcoverings has a huge hand in my success; I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. They’re celebrating 120 years in business this year, so I’m from wise, down-to-earth stock. Even though I’m set to be plastered nationwide, my family keeps me grounded.
What’s your biggest turn-on?
Anything that is masculine, sophisticated, sexy, and makes use of natural materials in new and exciting ways.
Who’s your current bestie?
I have so many friends, how can I pick just one? One of my business partners, Industrial Ink, is rich and strong and has that “iron beam patina” look going on—he really gets me.
Who would you like to work with next?
I think the question is, who wants to work with me? I know how to set the scene, then step back and let the magic happen.
What’s the worst part about fame?
Nothing—it’s all how you frame your experience. You can turn anything into a beautiful experience with the right attitude. Some folks complain that the media is obsessed with the newest, youngest thing but as long as you stay fresh and unique, you’re poised to become a legend.
