i+s Editor-in-Chief AnnMarie Martin shares A Time to Reflect

Dec. 1, 2015
AnnMarie Martin wishes a happy and healthy new year to all

It’s a crazy world we live in.

Crazy beautiful.

Crazy horrifying.

But most of the time just crazy mystifying. As I write this, we are just a few days past the sickening terror attacks on the City of Light. I wish I had something more profound to say about it. Unfortunately, all I’ve got is that our hearts, love, and strength go out to all those affected by it, especially those who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones. I wish these horrendous acts would stop, but I know they won’t. Even as an outsider looking in, it can make you feel completely paralyzed and helpless.

Remember though that no matter how dark it might seem or how lost or hurt you might feel, there is always something to be grateful for. Think back to a particularly low time in your life. Even if it was just the minutest of details, there was probably something you could identify as a point of gratitude. I think it’s important to always look for that small glimmer of happiness. It could be the lifeline that saves you.

The I&S team was blessed with not just a glimmer, but a big bright ray of sunshine during that same week when Regional Sales Manager Laura Vorwald welcomed her first baby girl into the world, Clara Mae. Anybody who knows Laura can tell you what a lucky kid Clara is. She’s a person that can always find the good, in any situation, and helps us do the same. And that’s just a little something we're grateful for.

So no matter what happens in 2016, look for your lifeline … It could be as simple as that baby’s laugh that made you smile in the supermarket, or the 20-minute chat you managed to fit in with an old friend over the phone.

Whatever it is, hold on to it, and remember that good things are coming.

A happy and healthy new year to you all.

Much love,
