Doug Mockett & Company has selected three winning entries for its 32nd Annual Design Competition.
Mockett has selected the three winning entries for its Annual Design Competition. The first comes from repeat winner Steve Goldberg who has engineered a brilliant floor track wire management system that allows cables to enter and exit at various entry points along a raceway. The other top concepts were delivered by Industrial Design students at Appalachian State University. This marks the second year in a row that student from the school have won.
Peter Clare submitted a deco-inspired door handle design that includes chamfered layers that step down gracefully into a smooth grip surface area. Colter Swan’s entry includes an aerodynamic shelf bracket with rhythmic cuts for added design aesthetic and structural stability that will fit into Mockett’s existing shelf track system, a thoughtfully executed line extension accessory. Professor Michael Rall adopted the contest as part of his senior-level design studio curriculum to introduce his students to real-world applications and to allow the freedom to research and refine their design process to fit the current market. This also offered students the opportunity to have their work reviewed by an outside entity.

Mockett is now accepting entries for its 33rd Annual Design Competition. For more information on entering, visit mockett.com/design-competition. Entry is easy: send a clear write-up about your idea. A drawing is even better but a model is best. Even if you think your idea is too prosaic, too dull, or “not good enough,” you are urged to send it in anyway and let Mockett be the judge of that.
