Hyphyn Launches During NeoCon 2025 as the First Biodegradable Performance Vinyl
Hyphyn creator Nassimi says Hyphyn is the first commercially available biodegradable performance vinyl. It represents a groundbreaking advancement in sustainable materials—proving that durability and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Developed by Nassimi, Hyphyn is engineered with a patented enzyme system and proprietary resin formulation that enables over 90% biodegradation within two years under landfill conditions—a first for performance vinyl.
“True innovation isn’t just about creating something new—it’s about rethinking what’s possible,” says Iwan Nassimi, executive vice president of Nassimi. “Hyphyn reimagines vinyl’s lifecycle, offering the performance the industry relies on while solving the long-term environmental impact challenges no other vinyl has addressed.”
Redefining Sustainable Performance
Vinyl has long been a go-to material in commercial interiors for its cost-effectiveness, durability, and versatility, particularly in workplace, hospitality, healthcare, education, and retail environments. However, it traditionally contributes to long-lasting landfill waste and microplastic pollution.
Hyphyn changes that narrative. It offers the same performance as traditional vinyl—strength, cleanability, and ease of maintenance—with one critical difference: it biodegrades in landfill conditions. Like its namesake, Hyphyn serves as a connector that bridges the use of high-performance materials with a more responsible end-of-life solution.
A Breakthrough in Material Innovation
Hyphyn differentiates itself among coated fabrics because it disappears responsibly. Its patented enzyme system is embedded in both the PVC and polyester backing, ensuring the entire product biodegrades. Once in a landfill, microbes trigger the enzyme to break down the material into inert gases—without releasing microplastics or toxic residues. These gases are captured and converted into energy, contributing to a closed-loop system. Additionally, Hyphyn is safe to incinerate, emitting no harmful dioxins—another major improvement over conventional vinyl.
Proven Environmental Safety: Five-Part Health & Sustainability Testing
Hyphyn has passed five key performance and environmental integrity tests:
- Material Safety – Free of lead, heavy metals, PFAS, and formaldehyde. Complies with Prop 65, RoHS, and REACH.
- Biodegradation – Over 90% biodegradation within 24 months under landfill conditions, verified in a controlled lab study.
- Post-Biodegradation Soil Testing – No harmful chemicals were detected in the remaining soil.
- Soil Health Validation – 100% seed germination in soil samples treated with Hyphyn™, confirming toxin-free biodegradation.
- Indoor Air Quality – Low-VOC performance for safe indoor use.
“Hyphyn isn’t just about where a material begins or how it performs—it’s about where its journey ends,” adds Nassimi.
