Earlier this year, Miami's Design District became the site of the first annual Midnight Affair Design Excellence Awards. Hosted and sponsored by Dacra, the event drew over 600 interior design professionals and suppliers, and marked the first collaborative statewide competition to involve all of Florida's professional interior design organizations: the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Interior Design Guild Foundation (IDGF) and Interior Design Associations Foundation (IDAF), along with the Bud Merle Foundation.Competing with over 60 project entries, the winners—all Florida professional and/or licensed interior designers—took home awards in 11 residential and commercial categories (see sidebar for complete list of winners). Among the winners honored with more than one award were: Alene Workman, who won three awards for a kitchen/bath design, for a residential space more than 3,500 square feet and for a singular space (sitting room); Alison Spear, AIA, who took home two awards for a residential design under 3,500 square feet and for her retail design of the Holly Hunt showroom in the Miami Design District; and Tessi Garcia, who earned two awards for a model home and for product design."Dacra and the interior design organizations outdid themselves," said Holly Hunt, award presenter and Miami Design District showroom owner. "The Midnight Affair brought together the entire Florida interior design industry in one big, exciting show of support and celebration."Additionally, the Buddy Award, annually presented by the Bud Merle Foundation to "the individual who demonstrates high standards and professionalism in design, in addition to demonstrating outstanding leadership in the communities," went to Larry Wilson, ASID, IIDA, of Jacksonville. 2002 Midnight Affair Award WinnersResidential Awards:Best Residential Design over
