EPA Funding Supports Research, Development, and Commercialization of 'Sustainable Design Suite'
SANTA ROSA, CA, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Building Studio (GBS) Inc., the leading sustainability analysis software and services company in the architectural, engineering, and construction industry, today announced that it had been awarded a multi-year Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) Phase II grant by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This award funds the development and commercialization of the Green Building Studio "Sustainable Design Suite," expanding the analysis capabilities of the Green Building Studio Web service to ensure a building designer can maximize their building design's sustainability in the most cost-effective manner and at the earliest point in the building design.
The award will specifically enable GBS to greatly expand and commercialize its Climate Server capabilities with hourly weather data at geographical resolutions not available today providing the detailed information required for accurate natural ventilation, rain harvesting, photo-voltaics and wind analyses. Further, water and energy opportunities available at the building site will be identified at the onset of project initiation to ensure any sustainable design opportunities are considered from the beginning. These sustainability analysis capabilities further enhance the Green Building Studio Web service which currently integrates today's leading 3D-CAD/BIM applications including Autodesk Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Revit Building, Autodesk Revit Systems, Autodesk Building Systems, and Graphisoft ArchiCAD and provides immediate whole building energy analysis using DOE-2.2 as well as EnergyPlus files.
"There are significant goals being set by organizations such as the EPA, AIA, and USGBC across the built environment industry to save energy and resources to ensure it progresses in a sustainable manner. The U.S. EPA has recognized that the Green Building Studio's market connection is rapidly democratizing advanced and streamlined energy and resource analysis tools for the entire building design community rather then the notable big projects that have been done to date," said John Kennedy, president of Green Building Studio Inc.
