Opa Locka, FL (September, 2006) - South Florida lighting manufacturer Luraline Products Co. has announced the call for entries for its annual "It's Your Light" student design competition, which includes some key changes and a challenging new theme for its sixth edition.
For the first time ever, the competition, which solicits new concepts for lighting fixtures from design and architecture students, is being conducted in two phases—giving both fall and spring semester students a chance to enter. Semi-finalists will be chosen from fall and spring entries, with each vying for the winning design.
The 2006-2007 competition focuses on LEDs (light emitting diodes), which are emerging as a viable source for general lighting. Once used primarily in specialized applications, LEDs are becoming a prevalent lighting option due to ongoing improvements in quality, efficiency and costs. The contest is open to LED lighting fixtures suitable for illumination of interiors, landscapes and exterior architectural elements.
"We are looking to the next generation of designers to explore and envision the many possibilities of this exciting light source, which may end up revolutionizing the industry," says Howard Levine, president of Luraline. "As LED technology continues to evolve, young minds may well be the ones to redefine the current concept of a lighting fixture."
The competition is open to students enrolled in design and architecture programs atFor more details or to receive an entry form, please call (800) 940-6588 or visit www.luraline.com.
