New Flooring Spec Introduced for Commercial Designers

Oct. 2, 2006

(September, 2006) – Nood Floorcovering, a young carpet brand developed around the needs of commercial interior designers, announces the launch of Nood Lab.

"Everything Nood does, from products to process, is based upon two principles," says founder Bo Barber. "The first is our commitment to dematerialize the manufacturing and specification process with the best practices available. The second is to give design back to designers. Given these two, it only makes sense that we create a dematerialized, Internet-based tool that enables fast, designer-centric delivery of what specifiers want."

Nood Lab can be accessed through the pattern library on Nood's Web site, www.noodfashion.com. Nood Lab is a pattern search engine that pulls carpet according to style, type or availability through its quick ship (three week) or made to order (10 week) programs.

Easy to use and interactive—with the same urban organic look that won the company an IIDA Best Booth Award at its NeoCon debut this year—Nood Lab provides instant pattern thumbnails, a pan and scan option upon selecting coloration, one-click virtual room scene simulations, plus project management folders to organize samples.

With dematerialization at its roots, Nood carpet begins as tufted white fiber then piece dyed to match any color a designer desires. Nood Lab offers a hefty color reference library of 216 Solutia yarn colors. The carpet itself can match the colors referenced in the online tool, or any other color reference a designer chooses.

The site is integrated with a dematerialized sampling program through Tricycle's innovative SIM+Factory™, using the award-winning SIM from Tricycle® prints for the initial rounds of samples. SIM is digitally modeled carpet that has won awards from NeoCon, the American Institute of Architects, International Interior Design Association and CoreNet, and Business Week and the Industrial Designers Society of America for its ability to reduce wasted time, money and natural resources in the early rounds of carpet sampling.

Visitors to the site can order an accurate SIM print sample and coordinating room scene print for delivery within 48 hours of request, speeding up their creative process without burdening landfills.

"The Web has become a tool that we all use … to buy airline tickets, try on clothes, listen to music and share photos of our friends," says Barber. "It can make life faster and more convenient in specifying, too. Nood Lab provides a virtual portal that allows designers to create and review many potential carpet combinations in less time and with greater convenience. It was an easy decision to take Nood online; and since we did it in a way that captures the fun and creative spirit of the brand, it is one that I'm delighted to promote."
