Foundation Opens Price Tower Exhibit

Jan. 16, 2007

Chicago - The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) is bringing Prairie Skyscraper: Frank Lloyd Wright's Price Tower to Chicago, January 18 through April 29, 2007. The exhibit will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the CAF, 224 S. Michigan Ave.; admission is free. Prairie Skyscraper documents how a singular building in Oklahoma came into existence and demonstrates how it epitomizes Frank Lloyd Wright's lifelong passion for merging architecture, design and art.

The exhibit was originally organized in celebration of the 50th anniversary of this masterpiece by the Price Tower Arts Center in cooperation with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in Scottsdale, AZ. "We are thrilled that the Chicago Architecture Foundation will host an exhibit that celebrates this milestone work by Frank Lloyd Wright," says Lynn Osmond, CAF president and CEO.

The exhibit includes a selection of documents, photographs, building components, and reproductions of drawings from the Price Tower Arts Center and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation archives. It also features original furnishings including desks, chairs, tables and textiles designed by Frank Lloyd Wright—many of which are on exhibit for the first time.

An opening lecture will be presented by the exhibition curator: Pinwheel on the Prairie: An Overview of the Price Tower by Anthony Alofsin, Roland Gommel Roessner Centennial Professor in Architecture, University of Texas at Austin. Held Thursday, January 18, 6 p.m. at the CAF, the lecture will explore Frank Lloyd Wright's concept of rotational geometry and his integration of materials from exterior to interior. A reception will follow immediately after the lecture.

An illustrated catalogue edited by exhibition curator Alofsin will be available for purchase in the Chicago Architecture Foundation retail store. The large-format 176-page book features 150 color illustrations, catalogue entries and essays by Wright scholars.
