New York – Dupoux Design, a leading New York City-based design firm, has launched d-mand, a concept and process that provide clients with turnkey custom furniture manufacturing services. The idea behind d-mand originated during Dupoux Design's work on Buddha Bar New York, which required a multitude of manufacturers and intensive quality control. d-mand provides clients with a one-stop-shop for design and manufacture.
The d-mand process saves time and allows Dupoux designers to maintain control and standards over every aspect of the manufacture and quality, which in turn, gives their clients the best product at the most attractive price point even within the most stringent time constraints.
"Because d-mand is our sister company, it gives our experienced designers the flexibility to be able to monitor and manage the entire process in a familiar way without having to go through a third and sometimes a fourth party", states Walter Zamora, president of d-mand. "Clients reap the fiscal advantages of that philosophy because it saves an enormous amount of back and forth time and allows us to navigate the manufacture situation on our own terms, with our own ideas and our own schedules."
The d-mand approach is broken down into four specific areas. The first, conceptual design, is where projects are discussed in depth, sketches and dimensions are reviews and possible challenges are considered. Once those factors are taken into consideration, detailed furniture drawings are created with the greatest possible amount of technical detail to provide to the manufacturer prior to production. The shop drawing is taken and is prototyped. Prototyping enables clients to see the physical model of the originally envisioned design prior to production, while inspecting allows the client to get a sense of comfort, quality, sturdiness and craftsmanship. It is this phase that gives clients the value-add of knowing if something will not work prior to production, which saves an enormous amount of time and money. Upon client inspection and approval, d-mand moves forward with actual production and is able to monitor the entire process based on schedules.
