Entries Sought for Sustainable Design Awards

The world's three largest design and development organizations have joined forces to offer the Global Sustainable Awards for 2007.

The awards, which will honor leadership in sustainable design collaboration and the promotion of sustainability, are sponsored by CoreNet Global, the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and the American Institute of Architects' (AIA)—committees on the environment and interior architecture.

Entries are being accepted now through March 1, 2007.

  • Awards will honor design firms and their clients who demonstrate best practices in collaboration while achieving sustainable design excellence.
  • Awards will also honor organizations that provide global leadership in development of sustainable policies, programs and processes.
  • Focus in 2007 will include demonstrated innovations in energy reduction and/or alternative energy use.
  • Finalists and winners will be featured in global media outreach and at a special awards ceremony.

Underwriting sponsors include: Haworth (headquarters in Holland, MI), Tandus (headquarters in Dalton, GA), Johnson Controls (headquarters in Milwaukee, WI) and Cubellis (headquarters in Boston, MA).

The 2006 steering committee for the awards includes:

Holley Henderson, IIDA, LEED AP, principal, H2EcoDesign, (Atlanta, GA). Henderson chairs the USGBC LEED-CI and Core Committees, serves as LEED-CI faculty, and is on the IIDA National Sustainability Committee

Kevin Sneed, AIA, IIDA, director of architecture, OTJ Architects, (Washington, D.C.) and vice chair, Committee on Interiors, AIA.

Dr. Nick Axford, senior director, CB Richard Ellis Ltd (UK) and principal author of the Corporate Real Estate 2010 research report on sustainability and CSR for CoreNet Global.
