Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Founding Chapter of the NEWH recently announced that Carol Derby, director of research and development for Designtex, will be leading a CEU seminar "Sustainable Hospitality" at the Marina del Rey Ritz Carlton on Monday, March 26th. The event will start at 6:00 p.m. and is sponsored by JLF/lone meadow and Designtex.
The Sustainable Hospitality seminar will explore "green textiles" using two approaches to focus on commercial interiors: one approach is to qualify individual textile products using the "green index" and the other is a quantitative approach to interior design projects using LEED® for Commercial Interiors.
A tour of the Ritz Carlton guest rooms, suites and club lounge, designed by Forrest Perkins, will be another highlight to the evening. This 70-person interior architecture and design firm specializing in the design of luxury hotels, resorts and multi-family, has offices in Dallas, Texas and Washington, DC. The firm's principals, Deborah Lloyd Forrest, FASID, and Stephen Perkins, AIA, will be available to answer questions and to lead tours of the guest areas during the meeting. They have also designed a new spa, which is under construction and are in the process of renovating the public areas, meeting rooms and ballroom. The hotel's restaurant was designed by Robert Barry of Barry Design Associates, Los Angeles, CA.
Instructor Carol Derby is director of research and development for Designtex, a Steelcase company, which designs and develops surface materials for commercial and residential interiors. Designtex, headquartered in New York City, is well-known in the architectural and design community as a leader in sustainability, an agenda it began to follow in earnest in 1994 with guidance from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC).
