New York /PRNewswire/ - In a joint initiative by The American Architectural Foundation and Architectural Record, "Great Schools by Design," key administrators from five school districts came together in Washington, D.C., recently to meet with 10 top school architects selected by the National Design Institute to design schools for these five districts.
The designs will be presented in "Schools of the 21st Century," a multi-platform program launching this month and presented by Architectural Record, in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and Edutopia. Created to bring design professionals together for effective school design for the future, "Schools of the 21st Century" began in January 2007 with the publication "Schools of the 21st Century." The program continues online with the Web site, www.schoolsofthe21stcentury.com.
School construction, renovation and maintenance are expected to total nearly $30 billion annually. The "Schools of the 21st Century" publication, Web site and symposium will present innovative solutions to the serious facilities problems that architects and educators face. "The 'Schools of the 21st Century' program presents rich case studies and the results of a demanding design charette to help architects and school officials make better school design decisions.
