HON Receives Eighth Indoor Advantage Certification

April 30, 2007

Muscatine, IA – The HON Company recently announced that its ComforTask office seating series has been certified by the Scientific Certification System (SCS) Indoor Advantage™ Gold program—fulfilling the most rigorous criteria for indoor air quality in the United States.

This certification marks The HON Company's eighth product line in two years to be certified by the SCS, further representing the company's ongoing commitment to supporting the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) system.

"At The HON Company, indoor air quality is not just part of a certification process, it's an important issue that we want to help our customers understand," says Mindy Billingsley, product business manager, The HON Company. "We are truly dedicated to providing our customers with safe, environmentally-friendly office furniture solutions and thrilled to have ComforTask added to our growing list of IAQ-certified products."

The HON Company, a long-standing steward of environmentally responsible manufacturing practices, emphasizes waste elimination and operating efficiency. To this end, the company complies with the industry's most comprehensive programs to conserve raw materials and reduce waste in its manufacturing processes. This involves everything from product design to packing materials to manufacturing processes. The IAQ certification process is an extension of The HON Company's commitment to find new and innovative ways to bring sustainable products to market.

Additionally, as part of The HON Company's initiative to ensure all products adhere to the LEED system standards, the company also makes material improvements to existing lines. As such, several furniture lines have received the Indoor Advantage Gold certification, including the F3™ seating line, the 7800 seating line, Pillowsoft seating line, all metal storage products and the Accomplish™ line of classroom furniture.

Indoor Advantage certification is administered by SCS of Emeryville, CA. The certification relies on data collected through small chamber testing, which allows manufacturers to examine a product's individual components. Indoor Advantage Gold meets USGBC LEED criteria for EQ4.5, EQ4.1, and EQ4.2. The Indoor Advantage Gold program has the added benefit of being health-driven; it is based on Chronic Reference Exposure Levels set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, rather than Total VOCs and Threshold Limit Values (TLVs).
