Taking Green to the Bank
Premier Bank is cashing in on sustainability at its Lenexa, KS, branch. An electronic communication system shows bank ads, reducing the need for paper. Centralized teller lines create efficiencies in processes and space use. Rubber flooring made from recycled tires is installed in teller areas, taking stress off employees’ leg joints. Kevin Carr of BRR Architects speaks about his experience on the renovation project and how sustainable design influences his practice.

Historic Building Will Reclaim Former Glory
The 95-year-old N. Morris Building will shine again with the completion of a major renovation and restoration project. Roanoke, VA-based architecture and engineering firm Spectrum Design will incorporate modern amenities yet maintain the structure’s historic components including pressed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling shelves, brick interior walls, and unique woodwork. The firm will restore the building’s brick façades, add an elevator and stairway, and replace plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.

University Building Will Educate, Commemorate
A $27 million renovation of the University of Toledo Memorial Field House will transform the building into a LEED-certified classroom facility. The project will reuse the existing site and building and use occupancy-activated air and lighting systems, a highly reflective roof, and nonirrigated landscaping. A key feature of the project is the construction of a site to commemorate military veterans throughout the community and region.
