ClimateMaster Announces New EarthPure® Water-Source Heat Pumps
ClimateMaster announces the availability of new small capacity water-source heat pumps with EarthPure® (HFC-410A) refrigerant. The new heat pumps are part of the Tranquility 20™ series. New sizes added to the line are 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton, completing the product range from 1/2 through 6 ton. Ground Loop ratings of up to 20 EER help provide additional points for LEED® buildings. Standard features include microprocessor controls, double-isolated compressor mounting, and stainless steel drain pans.

Libya Unveils Ecotourism Project
A new development is rising in the Libyan hills: the Green Mountain Sustainable Development Area. Located in the ancient Greek city of Cyrene, the carbon-neutral green development zone will cater primarily to tourism; it will be powered by the wind and sun, and its trash will be converted to biofuel. The plan will also protect the country’s fantastic Greek and Roman ruins, as well as its fragile coastline.

‘Green’ Checks in at Missouri Hotel
The Unity Village Hotel and Conference Center in Unity Village, MO, has become only the fourth hotel in the country to be LEED certified. Sustainable features of the 50-room lodge include bioswales that filter stormwater runoff, which is also used for irrigation; fluorescent lights; motion-sensitive lighting; and 37 deep geothermal heat pumps. The building is said to be 50-percent more efficient than buildings with conventional heating and cooling systems.

Safeway Goes Solar
Retail grocer Safeway has launched a new project to power 23 California stores with renewable solar energy. A rooftop solar panel array installed at the newly renovated Safeway Lifestyle store in Dublin is currently generating enough electricity to power the 55,000-square-foot store. The overall program goal is to remove 10.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the air.

Green School Gets Gold Star
Students at San Francisco’s Waldorf High School will have the opportunity to learn how they can leave a positive footprint on the environment with the opening of their new LEED Gold facility. It is the first school in the Bay Area to achieve this standard. Daylight sensors, water-saving plumbing fixtures, and high-performance windows are among its sustainable features.
