Ohlone College’s $60 million health and technology center in Newark, CA, is green through and through. It features twin “enthalpy” wheels in its main lobby that recapture heat and humidity; in classrooms, full-spectrum lighting simulates natural light and adjusts to the amount of sunlight coming in. Behind the campus, a recreated wetland containing micro-organisms cleans contaminated soil.

Lincoln’s Tomb to Harness Geothermal Energy
It is an innovation that even Honest Abe would be proud of: Geothermal energy will power a new heating and cooling system at the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL. As the only president to hold a U.S. patent, it is fitting that the latest in green innovation is being implemented at Abe Lincoln’s final resting place, says a spokesperson for the Illinois Historic Preservation Society.

The $38 million renovation and expansion of the Koelbel Building at the University of Colorado features classical elements such as a domed cupola and colonnaded entry porch, all designed to blend into the campus’ Tuscan vernacular style.
