DALTON, GA - The Shaw Contract Group Design Is... Award is becoming a widely anticipated award program that recognizes inspirational and visionary design. As part of the program, winning firms for 2007 received $2,000 to donate to a school or organization of their choice.
Each firm has chosen to support design and sustainability with the proceeds from the Design Is... Award and Shaw Contract Group will make the donations in their name.
The award winners and donation recipients are as follows:
- Gensler (Dallas) - The IIDA Texas / Oklahoma Education Fund through the IIDA Foundation
- Gilmore Interior Design (Sydney, Australia) - The Department of Interior Design at the Commercial Arts Training College in Sydney
- Hnedak Bobo Group (Memphis, TN) - The demonstration house sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Design at the University of Memphis
- idea|span (Atlanta) - The Department of Interior Design at the University of Florida
- lauckgroup (Dallas) - The School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin
- MCCARTAN (New York City) - The interior design program at the University of Minnesota
Now in its third year, the Design Is... Award seeks entrants to explain their definition of design. Entries are asked to describe the challenges, processes and results from their projects and will be judged by a panel of design experts. Because carpet is only a part of the project, the overall design of the space is considered. All design projects completed between February 2006 and February 2008 are eligible.
Project entries must be received by February 29, 2008; entry information is available at www.shawcontractgroup.com.
In addition to the cash donations in the firm's name, Design Is... Award winning firms received an original award sculpture from Bruce Mau Design and will be recognized in an upcoming advertising campaign in design industry publications.
