IIDA-NC Offers New “Sustaining Edge” Panel & Exhibition

Feb. 12, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO - Sustainable design leaders will guide their colleagues through an exploration of the very latest tools and techniques for minimizing the building industry's impact on global climate change at "Sustaining Edge."

This thought-provoking panel discussion and exhibition will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Stantec's San Francisco headquarters, located at 405 Howard St. Sustaining Edge is sponsored by the Northern California Chapters of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA-NC) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-NCC), and Stantec, an international design and consulting firm.

"The panel will be sharing best practices in sustainable design for selecting and utilizing building materials and systems that have little or no impact on global climate change.  They'll explore one organization's Carbon Footprint Baseline and its intended next steps to incorporate product manufacturer's impacts, assessment tools, and registries. This presentation will help designers and architects work with their clients to make informed choices," explains Jean Hansen, Sustaining Edge panel moderator and sustainable interiors manager of HDR Architecture. Hansen is also a board member of the IIDA-NC and USGBC-NCC.

The panel discussion will be held in Stantec's training room where speakers representing a cross-section of industries will include: Joe Bialowitz of Kaiser Permanente; Lauren Casey of HDR Engineering; Gil Friend of Natural Logic; and Ryan Stroupe of the PG&E Energy Center. Additionally, approximately 50 vendors will be sharing cutting-edge carbon footprint assessment tools and renewable energy technologies and products.
