BPS Becomes Founding Reporter of The Climate Registry

Feb. 12, 2008

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA - Bentley Prince Street Inc., California's largest commercial carpet manufacturer, has become a Founding Reporter of The Climate Registry by being one of the first to join and support the nonprofit organization. The Climate Registry was established to measure and publicly report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in a common, accurate and transparent manner consistent across industry sectors and borders.

As a Founding Reporter, Bentley Prince Street has voluntarily committed to measure, independently verify, and publicly report its GHG emissions on an annual basis, utilizing The Climate Registry General Reporting Protocol. The protocol is based on the internationally recognized GHG measurement standards of the World Resources Institute and World Business Council on Sustainability.

"Bentley Prince Street has demonstrated exemplary environmental leadership by courageously stepping forward to support The Climate Registry in its preliminary stages.  We are deeply grateful for their integral support in helping to address the challenge of climate change," says Gina McCarthy, chair of The Climate Registry.

Long committed to publicly reporting its environmental impacts, Bentley Prince Street was the first charter member of the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR), joining in 2002. The company was named the first Climate Action LeaderTM of 2004 and was also the first CCAR member to certify its GHG emissions inventory with a third party and publicly report its emissions. Bentley Prince Street was also honored as a Climate Action Champion by the CCAR in 2006 in recognition of its leadership in addressing climate change and making significant commitments to reductions in GHG emissions.

"Partnering with The Climate Registry to track and reduce GHG emissions supports our Mission ZeroTM goal of eliminating our potential impact on the environment by the year 2020. As a Founding Partner, we hope to encourage other companies to join the organization as well, and provide as much transparency to their sustainability outcomes as possible," notes Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street.

Since 1994, Bentley Prince Street has achieved a number of other significant environmental milestones:

  • Made 100 percent of its electrical energy requirements renewable
  • Reduced waste sent to landfill by 95 percent
  • Reduced net absolute GHG emissions by 75 percent
  • Reduced water intake by 71 percent
  • Reduced overall energy use by 57 percent
  • Reduced NOx by 36 percent
