SAN DIEGO - Construction is complete for the Smith Consulting Architects-designed tenant improvements of Aperio Technologies Inc.'s research and development office building. The 37,000-square-foot, single-story facility is located at 1430 Vantage Ct. in Vista, CA.
Smith Consulting Architects was charged with design services, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration for the $775,000 project. Richard Middelberg, chief financial officer of Aperio Technologies, provided oversight.
A primary design goal for the project was to incorporate an open work environment that encourages the entire company to operate as a team. Load-bearing walls of an existing mezzanine were replaced with columns to include more office area in the common workspace. All individual offices have a generous amount of window area from floor to door height, and several offices were built for unassigned, shared use.
The chosen color scheme integrates the corporate color of Aperio Technologies, blue, along with light, warm neutrals. Almost all of the interior finishes were replaced or renovated, including the paint, ceramic tile, ceiling tile, and carpet. Most of what was previously a large warehouse and industrial space now has carpet, finished walls, and new lighting fixtures. The exposed roof structure was painted to create a finished, open ceiling. The existing warehouse skylights were replaced with high-efficiency daylight harvesting fixtures by Daylight Technology to improve the quality of light and to reduce the need for electric lighting during the day.
Scott Cairns served as vice president-in-charge for Smith Consulting Architects, with Derek Veit as project architect and Kelley Hockett as interior designer. Prime Structural Engineers served as structural engineer, while J.P. Electric provided electrical engineering design/build services and J.A. Fergus Mechanical provided mechanical engineering design/build services. Barnett Construction was the general contractor.
