Patient Tower Designed to Accommodate Growing Population
Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, AZ, recently celebrated the topping out of its $86 million patient tower. The six-story tower will have a modern, rectangular design and will be tied in with existing buildings through colors and materials. The tower will also feature flexible shell space to accommodate the growing population served by the hospital.

Modular Wall Effect Makes Plaza Unique
Smith Consulting Architects created a modular wall effect at the Bressi Ranch Medical Plaza in Carlsbad, CA, by spacing apart ground face/burnished Birdseye block wall areas with columns of split face charcoal block. The resulting effect reduces the mass and scale of the exterior walls while providing texture and height variation. The exterior landscape and the treatment of windows as punched openings with blue glazing in silver frames reinforce the pattern.

TVA Architects’ use of sustainable features in its conversion of a drab WWII military warehouse into a contemporary office space for the Social Security Administration Call Center recently earned a LEED Silver Award. The facility’s many sustainable features include daylighting and energy-saving controls, indoor air quality measures, preservation of 75 percent of the original building structure, and recycling over 80 percent of demolition and construction debris.
