Research with a View
Researchers working at a new facility at Columbia University in Palisades, NY, will enjoy picturesque views of the Hudson River, a hillside forest, and the campus interior. The facility also features atria with high clerestory windows to let in plenty of natural light. The layout was driven directly by the needs of its researchers, who study the origin, evolution, and future of the natural world.

Facility Goes Green in More Ways Than One
As they set out to turn three agricultural fields into the site of an office building, designers used nature to their advantage by incorporating into their design existing rows of mature trees, which now serve as a shade source. And the trees aren’t the only “green” part of the project – high indoor air quality, natural lighting, and roof drains for irrigation all contribute to the facility’s sustainability.
