TORONTO - Teknion Corp. recently announced that the U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for commercial interiors (LEED®-CI) 2.0 Gold to its new San Francisco showroom.
"LEED-CI is the recognized benchmark for high-performance green interiors and one that Teknion is proud to have achieved," says David Feldberg, president and CEO. "We continually focus on ensuring that our products, manufacturing processes and facilities are safe and healthy for all, and that our actions positively impact the environment. LEED-CI certification for our San Francisco showroom is consistent with our core values and represents yet another accomplishment in our ongoing goal to be not just a greener company, but a better company."
LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council's voluntary rating and certification program for developing high-performance, sustainable green-built environments. Projects earn points and are rated in six green credit categories, including: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design.
Teknion's environmental concerns and commitment to sustainability were foremost in the planning of the showroom. Created by Vanderbyl Design, the space uses recycled materials and maximizes natural light. The primary wall treatment is an organic pattern water-jet cut from panels made of recycled white plastic bottles. This unique pattern allows more than 50 percent of the material to be recycled back to the panel manufacturer. The treatment is opaque and yet provides translucency. Great care was taken to use recycled and recyclable materials throughout, as well as Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood and wall finishes. All products displayed are GREENGUARD-certified for indoor air quality.
The new showroom is located on the 15th floor at 88 Kearney St. in downtown San Francisco. Measuring nearly 11,000 square feet, it was officially opened in September of 2007.
