IA Interior Architects Celebrates Earth Month with Daily Green Tips

April 22, 2008

NEW YORK - IA Interior Architects (IA) is celebrating Earth Month with a series of Daily Green Tips. Sent via e-mail, each message contains a fact about damage to the environment and problem-solving suggestions. This project—a supplement to IA's Monthly Green Tips—is being led by the firm's Sustainable Taskforce, a 22-person group dedicated to promoting green design within IA and in the community-at-large.

The Daily Green Tips cover a range of topics, including those related to energy efficiency at home and at work; reduction and/or elimination of paper and plastic usage; local, sustainable food products and resources; and transportation. They also offer suggestions about environmentally-responsible design. The Sustainable Taskforce cites information from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and Energy Star. When providing examples, the Sustainable Taskforce references IA projects designed to the standards established by the USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System™.

"The Daily Green Tips are a tool for firm-wide outreach. They are a way to remind all staff of the differences we can make each day in our personal and work lives with regards to the environment. If nothing else, the daily statistics have stirred dialogue and new thinking about our decisions," explains Kim Parsley, Assoc. IIDA, LEED AP, who leads the Sustainable Taskforce.

"As design professionals, it is our responsibility to implement ecologically-responsible solutions for the built environment. We can create innovative solutions for our clients while making a difference in the future of our planet," notes David Mourning, AIA, IIDA, president and chief executive officer.
