New Retail Facility to Open in La Jolla

May 1, 2008

SAN DIEGO - Construction is complete for Sauvage Swimwear, a new retail store designed by renowned local design firm, Graham Downes Architecture, and located at 1025 Prospect Street in La Jolla, CA.

Situated on the ground level of a two-story building, the 1,087-square-foot retail space is the premier flagship store for the high-end women's and men's swimwear line, previously only sold in Las Vegas department stores, Victoria Secret catalogs and online.

Graham Downes Architecture provided full architectural and interior design services for the $150,000 project. Stone & Nelson Construction was the general contractor. Simon and Betsy Southwood are the owners of Sauvage Swimwear.

Architectural elements integrate into a chic, minimalist design concept that is both stylish and functional. A long, dropped-soffit ceiling plane gives the space a strong linear theme, mirrored below on sheer white floor tiles and accented by contrasting zebra wood millwork. Low display platforms transform into a catwalk for private fashion events and long, flowing fabrics soften the walls at the fitting rooms, oriented for maximum privacy. Soft, reflective finishes and specialty lighting pieces, combined with the glossy custom flexible wall fixture systems for merchandise and graphic display, give the store its lustrous ambiance.

The project team for Graham Downes Architecture included Graham Downes as principal and lead designer, with Caryn Bailey and Linda Nguyen as project manager and designer, respectively. Consultants included KLH Engineering for mechanical and electrical engineering and CS Lighting for lighting services. Maximum Visibility was the fixtures manufacturer.
