Mayne’s Cooper Union Starts Construction

Pritzker Prize winner Thom Mayne of the Los Angeles firm Morphosis will soon make his New York debut with a new $130 million building in Cooper Square. The retail-classroom combination facility will feature a dynamic façade, with the building hoisted atop V-shaped pillars, appearing to float in the air. Mayne also included a curvaceous atrium swirling all the way up to the skylit ceiling as well as a sinuous grand staircase.
