Yost Grube Hall Joins The 1%

Aug. 5, 2008

PORTLAND, OR - Portland architecture firm, Yost Grube Hall Architecture (YGH), has joined The 1%, a program of Public Architecture. Launched in 2005, this national program challenges architecture and design firms to pledge 1 percent of their billable hours to pro bono work.

Eighteen of YGH's full-time employees have pledged a total of 455 hours annually to nonprofit organizations. The range of pro-bono services offered may include planning, programming, feasibility studies, architecture, interior design, graphics and fundraising assistance, and cost control.

According to Joachim Grube, FAIA, principal of YGH, "Our firm has a long tradition of providing pro-bono services to nonprofit organizations supporting common public causes, and we are honored to assist the 1% Program of Public Architecture."

YGH has an extensive history supporting nonprofit organizations, including Self Enhancement Inc., MercyCorps, the Mona Foundation, Architecture Foundation of Oregon, Kids on the Block, Oregon Food Bank, EarthShare of Oregon, and United Way.

About The 1%
The 1% program was launched by Public Architecture in 2005 with the support of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and is presently supported by a range of groups, including the National Educational Association (NEA), American Institute of Architects (AIA), Boston Society of Architects (BSA), corporate and private foundations, as well as leading firms such as Elness Swenson Graham Architects (ESG), Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK), HKS, McCall Design Group, and Perkins+Will. If every architecture professional in the United States dedicated just 20 hours annually, it would add up to 5 million hours each year the equivalent of a 2,500-person firm working full time for the public good. More than 300 firms have signed on to date. Visit
