DALTON, GA - Tandus, a leading floor covering manufacturer located in Dalton, GA, was recently recognized by the Georgia Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) with its 2008 Company Environmental Award.
Waste management practices exhibited by Tandus were the basis for this recognition and reflect the on-going efforts the floor covering manufacturer continues to demonstrate in reducing its environmental footprint.

Some of Tandus' waste reduction initiatives include:
- Floore - the industry's first closed-loop recycling program that to date has kept more than 130 million pounds of carpet out of landfills and incinerators;
- Retrieve™ - recovers physical product samples and sample folders from the marketplace and either recycles or reuses them; and
- Green Samples by Tandus - an innovative reinvention of the traditional carpet-sampling book that minimizes the need for physical carpet samples, while still providing a complete sample experience.
In addition to the above programs, Tandus has reduced its solid waste consumption by 95 percent per square yard and its waste to landfill is less than 1 percent by weight of the company's total production. Through its Environmental Management System (EMS), Tandus plans to obtain ISO 14001 certification in early 2009 and has set an annual waste reduction goal average of 25 percent in total waste material sent to the landfill from all its facilities by April 31, 2009.
